Thank you for visiting our site!
Education Earthquake Nepal provides a safe haven for Nepalese children, displaced by earthquakes and other tragic personal circumstances, to live and learn.
Originally set up to help Nepalese families whose lives had been torn apart by the devastating earthquakes which hit Nepal in April and May 2015, our Trust has put its efforts into building a permanent hostel which is now capable of housing up to 50 children and we have widened our scope to take in other disadvantaged children also.
We have already re-built a government school in Pokhara, but have now moved our hostel to an area with a greater expanse of land so that we can eventually become self-sustainable, having coupled it with an eco-friendly agro farm. This is located some kilometres outside Pokhara in a rural area, but is very near to a government school where our children can study. We also have a teacher living in at the hostel to supervise homework and give additional help, as many of our children had received very little education before joining us.
Our project relies on the generosity of donations to sponsor the children, and to help fund our eco project. In this way we are building a sustainable lifestyle for the children, where life-skills and independence for the future are key.

PLEASE NOTE that since 2017 we have been officially registered as Dibya Jyoti Education Trust, but we have been known by the name 'Education Earthquake Nepal' from the very outset, so this is the name by which we are best known.

About us
When the first major earthquake struck on April 25th, 2015, family, friends and former guests of Peace Dragon Lodge in Pokhara, Nepal, co-owned by Dibya Baral and Juliette Cunliffe, started phoning us to check if all was well and asking how they could help.
At the time, much of the aid coming in to Nepal from abroad was being left on the tarmac to rot in the monsoon rains and the government charged high taxes on every shipment. Many of the goods in these shipments did not find their way to the people who needed it most. The easiest way for people to help therefore was to send monetary donations which could be spent sensibly here in Nepal. After offering immediate help, we realised that the money should be spent on more long term projects and so 'Education Earthquake Nepal' was born.
We began by funding a substantial part of the reconstruction of Shree Arun Jyoti Primary School in Kaski District, but soon others came on board to help them and we knew that our efforts could be better utilised nearer to home.
So it was that we began to help Gauri Basic School, which we rebuilt, initially to help the children in the area of Tallagau, a small village atop a hill overlooking Fewa Lake in Pokhara.

Below: Work is underway, using all natural stones.
Word about the work we were doing had travelled and in April 2016 we were asked to specifically help the children of Chepang Village, 40 kms West of Kathmandu. The people living in the village are below the caste system and had received absolutely no government help, even though the majority of homes and buildings in the village had been razed to the ground.
We agreed to take a few Chepang children and a handful from other places, each of whom was in dire need of help. As a temporary measure we rented a suitable property to house 16 children and in 2017 founded Dibya Jyoti Education Trust, Registration. No. 179263/074/075, but we still use the name which we have been familiarly known from the outset.
We now have plenty of land in the district of Tanahun, where we have built our new hostel, so our children have the opportunity to be happy, clothed, well fed, active and soundly educated.
If you are interested in helping or even just following our progress and 'spreading the word', please join us in our endeavours. We would love to have you on board.

Our project was originally set up as
Education Earthquake Nepal,
the name by which it is still best known, with many followers on Facebook.
In 2017 a Trust was set up to handle the growth and development of our work, so technically we are now
